New York City May. 10th, 2002

Heidi had a business meeting in the Philadelphia area, so we went on an overnight trip to New York City. First I picked up a couple of back packs at the local mall, then we caught a commuter train into Philadelphia and switched to Amtrak to Penn Station in Manhattan. Visited Pier 17 on the lower east side, toured the Peking a four masted bark ship and the Ambrose light ship floating lighthouse.

Later in the day we went to Ground Zero, you had to have tickets which were free but they only let you on the viewing platform in a certain time frame. There was a Fireman there to answer any questions about the recovery progress. They are almost finished with the Trade Center area and soon will topple two more buildings into the hole that are beyond repair. The fences surrounding the site are covered with mementoes from all over the world. The red T-shirt pictured below came from Circleville Ohio. That night we went to Times Square to see the sights and have dinner then back to the Waldorf Astoria hotel, a beautiful place with white gloved bellboys to help you with your back packs?.

Forgot to bring my camera on this trip, so these were taken with a $7.00 camera and scanned in at home.
