Neuschwanstein Castle       April 4th, 2008
Southwest of Munich is where Neuschwanstein Castle can be found. Hohenschwangau was the mountain retreat of the Wittelsbachs, the Bavarian royal family who ruled until the unification of Germany in the late 19th century. Neuschwanstein Castle was the creation of King Ludwig II, the last important King of Bavaria. Ludwig II's life story was quite amazing, though tragic. He became monarch at nineteen, and his good looks and charm initially won him the hearts of the Bavarian people.

While Neuschwanstein Castle was built in the 19th century, it was constructed in the style of a 13th-century Crusader Castle and decorated ornately within. It is an amazing sight, set in wonderful scenery. This is the castle that Walt Disney based his famous Disneyland Castle design upon.
